From Survival to Self-Understanding

I was invited to speak at a TEDx event to share a message that sits at the heart of my work:

That many of the struggles we carry are not signs of weakness —but adaptations to experiences that were never fully seen, understood, or processed.

The Message Behind the Talk

So many people live with an internal voice that says:

“I’m not enough”
“I don’t belong”
“There’s something wrong with me”

These beliefs don’t appear out of nowhere.

They are often shaped by:

  • Early emotional experiences

  • Unmet needs

  • Environments where parts of us had to be hidden or adapted

Over time, these experiences can turn into patterns —
ways of thinking, feeling, and relating that continue into adulthood.

What the Talk Explores

In this talk, I explore:

  • How we internalise beliefs about ourselves

  • Why emotional pain can feel confusing or overwhelming

  • The connection between past experiences and present patterns

  • How survival mechanisms can become limitations over time

And most importantly —
how understanding these patterns can begin to change them.

Why This Matters

Many people spend years trying to “fix” themselves…

Without realising that what they are experiencing makes sense.

This talk is an invitation to shift that perspective —
from self-judgment to self-understanding.
